Who Wrote It?

Andrew Norriss comes from Scotland. He was christened by a bishop who was a keen fisherman. When he was handed to him at the font, he held him for a moment and said ‘Eight and a half pounds’. He was quite right!

He now lives in a Hampshire village. Some people like living in big towns but he is a village person. He likes walking down to the shop (there’s only one) and saying good morning to everyone. Do that in a town and they give you very funny looks.

Andrew has written many books for children. He won the Whitbread Children's Book Award in 1997 for his book Aquila followed by the Aquila TV series for BBC. He also adapted his books Bernard's Watch and Matt's Million for ITV as well as creating and co-writing the successful sit-com The Brittas Empire.

What's It About?

When Francis meets a ghost on the school playing field, the ghost is almost as surprised as he is. Jessica has been dead for over a year, but no one has been able to see or hear her before. No one. Apart from the fact that she's dead, Jessica seems a perfectly ordinary girl, but the mystery remains - why is Francis the only one who can see her? And why can't she remember how she died?

Fact File

At school Andrew didn’t like the lessons, the teachers, and most of the other children... It was a long time before he realized this probably had more to do with him than the school.

When Andrew was thirty five years old he went to a hypnotist to give up smoking. While very relaxed, the hypnotist asked Andrew what he really wanted to do in life. He said he wanted to be a writer (which came as something of a surprise) so he went away and did it. Well, it wasn’t quite that simple, but nearly...

Amber from Rossett high school:

Amazing, I loved this book so much I couldn't put it down. The plot was amazing and it shows that being different Is good even if you don't feel it is. This book is outstanding and would love to read an book like this. All the characters are unique in their own way. I'm sure you know the plot by now so i won't waste anyone's time writing it. I would recommend this book to anyone struggling with bullying, or the haunting feeling that being different is wrong

I would rate this 5/5

Sri from Prince Henrys grammar school:

This book is such a great story and can really help everyone whether they are going through that or can just help people come to terms with it. It really shows the inside view of what happens when you feel different. I personally hate standing out of the crowd and people who release to that can feel comforted. I wasn't able to put the book down!!

Sri gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read 13 Days of Midnight by Leo Hunt.

Abigail from Benton Park:

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was easy to read and the characters were easy to visualise making them seem more realistic. The story also dealt with hard subjects such as bullying and suicide which was a topic I had never thought too much into before. The ending was happy but also slightly sad at the same time. Very good.

I loved the book it was very good because it had some humor in it and also it had really emotional bits. The book was written well and some parts really struck me especially when Andrew Norriss reavealed the characters secrets.I think Andrew Norriss is a very clever author because he used twists and his book gave me ideas for writing when im in school and his vocabulary choices were good (I'll probably use them)

Katie from King James School :

I could not put this book down; it was emotional, gripping and powerful. I would not pick this book up if it wasn't for the Leeds book awards, the cover and blurb did not appeal to me, however the second I picked up this book I was hooked. I loved how this book approaches a very difficult subject to understand and gives you an insight on what it is like to be bullied. I liked how as the tale unfolded the characters personalities grew as they regained their confidence together. I really enjoyed how each character was unique and had very different reasons for being upset with their lives.

I liked how Jessica could relate to each character for example her love for fashion helped Francis become comfortable with his “different” hobby. This book shows how important it is to have confidence in who you are and accept that person.

Katie gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read 13 Days of Midnight by Leo Hunt.

Abbigale from Corpus Christi catholic collage:

This an exciting book, very enjoyable and really drags you in

Abbigale gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

William from King James's school:

I really liked the characters Andi and Roland because there was lots of description about them so I could picture them in my head. I felt this book was more about suicide than bullying but dealt with both in a kind way. It made you realise that talking about problems helps solve them.

William gave Jessica's Ghost 3 out of 5 and now plans to read The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell.

Aine from Prince Henry's Grammar School:

I really enjoyed this book. I've never read anything like it and I don't know if that kept me turning page after page or that the author wrote it so well. I like the idea how one person can change the lives of so many

Aine gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

Ella from Prince Henry's Grammar School:

I really enjoyed this book because it is based in a very sensitive subject and is written in a great way. I suggest you read this book.

tom from leeds east acadamy:

it is one of those books that you carnet put down for an hour when I was in the car and I couldn't put it down in the car so it is so good but the only bad thing was that the ending wasn't as good as I thought but till a great book

tom gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read If You Were Me by Sam Hepburn.

Yasmine from Benton Park Secondary School:

Jessica’s Ghost

A story of Francis and friends (whom are met along the way) helping Jessica discover why only they can see her and why she hasn’t moved on..

My favourite character was Andi because she was a very interesting character and even though she’s an outcast, she was accepted by Francis and Jessica also was able to become good friends (along with another character later in the story).

It was able to cover a touchy subject well and it shone a bit more light on the subject. At start I found the cover too simplistic but at the end I think what the cover was supposed to be, so it’s rather interesting.

I give this book a â…˜, and also recommend it to people who like story of friendship and a bit of supernatural.

Yasmine gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Joe All Alone by Joanna Nadin.

Lucy from Benton Park:

I really enjoyed this book because it was really imaginative, tense at points, sad and gripping, making me want to read more. I learnt that books sometimes don't have a happy ending for all the characters.

Lucy gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell.

leah from temple moor:

i really enjoyed this book at the start i wasn't sure but once i read on i found myself wanting to read more also the author handled a delicate subject and also put some advice in there aswell

leah gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read 13 Days of Midnight by Leo Hunt.

Elisabetta from Corpus Christi Catholic College:

Loved this book!!! so heart warming and emotional that made my eyes watery... wish I read this book backwards. I hope and wish that there will be a second book to JESSICA"S GHOST!!!!!!!!!!

Elisabetta gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell.

Lihem from Corpus Christi Catholic College:

From the moment I first read this book I couldn't simply put it down. I love how everyone comes together despite their different and opposite personalities and how although they were supposed to help Jessica move onto the afterlife she in a way helped them to believe in themselves. It definitely showed how people feel sometimes and just reminded us that there is some people out there who don't deserve the sort of treatment for simply being different from everybody else. I would definitely recommend this for those who love emotional stories and a bit of suspense/slight adventure.

Lihem gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read If You Were Me by Sam Hepburn.

Mrs from Leeds City Academy:

This book was quite addictive and held a few surprises. I thought it handled a serious subject well and in a very thoughtful way. I would like to read more from this author. I loved each of the characters too.

Mrs gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Joe All Alone by Joanna Nadin.

Aniqah from Allerton Grange High School:

Jessica's ghost really made me think about how people feel when they are cast out of things and how they want to do bad things to themselves.

I gave this book a four out of five because it was such a good book. I would recommended this book to people my age and older.

Aniqah gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

Maya from Boston Spa School:

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Jessica's Ghost because you never knew what was going to happen next. My favourite part of this amazing book was when Francis (one of the main characters) realised that he was the only one that could see Jessica.

The main characters were:

Francis

Jessica and

A girl called Andi

I found this book quite emotional as there were parts where it was happy, and other parts where it was sad. I couldn't put this book down. Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop until I had read most of it!

I would recommend this book to everyone who likes books that refer to real life situations and things that could be happening at this very minute; I won't tell you what though.

Read this book!!!

Maya gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Joe All Alone by Joanna Nadin.

Charlie from Abbey Grange Academy:

I thought that this book was very interesting and full of suspense. I would recommend this book as it is very entertaining. I have given this 4 out of 5 because it lacked plot, the storyline wasn't very gripping. Apart from that, an amazing book.

Charlie gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell.

Harry from Roundhay School:

Jessica’s Ghost is a really great read; I love how it starts off with a seemingly simple story, and as you go through the book you slowly find out more about the characters. The story has a great moral and teaches people lessons which will be helpful in life. There are no major faults which make the quality of the book lower, but I would have liked to see where the Mum’s business took her!

Harry gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read 13 Days of Midnight by Leo Hunt.

Joe from Allerton Grange School:

This was one of the best books in the shortlist as it was well written with lots of exciting bits and new characters. I would recommend this book to children of the age 12-14

Joe gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell.

Becca from Abbey Grange Academy:

This book is an extremely heartwarming book about a boy called Francis who meets a ghost called Jessica. It starts off quite light hearted and funny but ends up addressing some serious issues. Even though the subject matter may seem a little dark, I thought the author did an extraordinary job, as it is written in such a way where we feel so proud of what the characters have overcome. Overall, I thought it had a really compelling story line and was incredibly well written.

Becca gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell.

Aliyah from Allergen Grange High School :

This book shows older readers what it feels like to be cast out of things.

Aliyah gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

charlotte from crawshaw academy`:

I thought that this book was quite boring as I couldn't really get into it and I was just not intrigued.

charlotte gave Jessica's Ghost 2 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

Charli from Corpus Christi Catholic College:

This book hooked me from the first sentence, its a very heart warming story that keeps you reading and gives you a variety of many different emotions. The story includes many different plot twists that make you question how the story will continue. Most of the time I felt myself reaching for this book because it also uses an excellent range of vocabulary. This book is definitely one for you if you like varied emotion stories. I would recommend this for 10-14 years old.

Charli gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read 13 Days of Midnight by Leo Hunt.

Alice from Cardinal Heenan:

SAMHITA from ROUNDHY HIGH SCHOOL:

This book is a heartwarming book. I loved the part when they realized they were in the pit.

It really shows the power of friendship and love towards each other.

The ending was really unexpected and sad.

overall it was an awesome read.

SAMHITA gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

SAMHITA from ROUNDHY HIGH SCHOOL:

I loved this book. It really showed the power of friendship and love between them. It is such an inspiring book to read. Loved this story.

So inspiring

SAMHITA gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

charlotte from Crawshaw Academy:

it was ok at the start but I got a bit bored with the plot

charlotte gave Jessica's Ghost 3 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

Lucy from Benton Park:

I thought Jessica's ghost was amazing and wrote about a touching subject very well. The thing I loved most about it was that throughout the book it showed things that would all make sense at the end when Jessica realises why she is still on earth.

My favourite character would have to be Jessica because she was always really positive and seemed to me to be a determined, laid back person and just took things as they came. She would always go to Francis and the rest of the characters that could see and hear her to give things a go and not worry.

On the other hand I don't like the cover because I think it looks too plain and doesn't tell you much about the story which I guess is why you should never judge a book by its cover.

Overall I would really suggest it for 11-14 year olds as a great, emotional read.

Lucy gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

kirenA from LEEDS EAST ACADEMY:

I THOUGHT THIS BOOK WAS AMAZEING.IT IS A FUNNY YET HEARTWARMING BOOK THAT CAN PUT A SMILE ON ANYONES FACE.I REALLY RECOMMENED THIS BOOK TO PEOPLE WHO LIKE FUNNY YET SAD BOOKS.

kirenA gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Joe All Alone by Joanna Nadin.

Kaya from Allerton Grange School:

I loved Jessica's ghost it would be so cool to have a ghost friend in real life. Very gripping towards the middle and the end I was not expecting it to end how it did.

Kaya gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Joe All Alone by Joanna Nadin.

Jake from King James's School:

I thought Jessica’s Ghost was an amazing heart-warming book that really blew me away.

I loved all the characters because I thought that each one was unique. I was intrigued by their back stories because of the way they gave insight into each individual’s personality and why they were thinking horrible things about themselves.

I think my favourite character was Roland because of the way he grew from a nervous, self-conscious little boy to a boy with a heart of gold who opens up to anyone.

Quite honestly, I would never have picked this up from a shelf because of the way the cover looks supernatural and (kind of) girlie, but I did really enjoy it, so I’m glad that the Leeds Book Awards got me to read books, like this, that I might otherwise have overlooked.

I wish the book had told us more about the Mums’ business because I thought it only touched on that and I think the author could have added it as an epilogue.

Jake gave Jessica's Ghost 3 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

Freya from Boston Spa:

The thing I liked best about 'Jessica's Ghost' was that the book went straight into the plot. The book has detailed descriptions of each character, and they are all extremely well written. The book includes tragedy, friendship and very emotional scenes. This book was an absolute page turner and I have never read anything like it.

Freya gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

Alice from King James's School:

Jessica's Ghost is a book that really demonstrates the power of friendship. It is a very emotional book that helped me understand what some people go through in life and reading it made me think about how people in the world, like Francis, get bullied just for being different and how this sort of bullying can affect people. I really liked the part where Francis met Andi for the first time and discovered she could see Jessica too.

However, I found the front cover quite plain and dull and it would not make me want to pick up the book if I saw it on a shelf.

I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes books about friendship and the supernatural.

Alice gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

Tegan from co-operative Academy of Leeds:

I really enjoyed this book. It was really detailed and interesting. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes books that are deep and emotional

Tegan gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read If You Were Me by Sam Hepburn.

Joel from King James's School :

I approached this book with the pre-conceived idea that I would hate it because it was about the supernatural. I NEVER read these books off my own accord and so I was slightly wary of reading this. However, I wrongly judged the way the book would be expanded upon.

The plot was a strong one and explained the sadness and loneliness the characters were feeling so well that I could really empathise with them.

The book is written in third person and has a narrative different to any I have experienced before. Rather than explain in detail everything they do, it switched to a broader account.

The book was, though, nothing particularly special so I will only reward it two stars out of five.

Joel gave Jessica's Ghost 2 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

Luke from King James's School:

This book about a group of friends who have been brought together by a ghost called Jessica. Although Francis uses Jessica to bring them all together nobody else can see her so every parent he has helped by getting their child to go back to school marvels at how he does this.

My favourite character was Jessica because she seems funny, laid back and friendly. The characters did feel real to me because I can imagine if someone was having a hard time at school or at home that might be what they will come to. And the quote, “Once you have thought of it you keep on coming back to it and it seems like it is the only way out.” I can believe this because I can imagine how desperate they would be to make it end that they would come to that. The story did keep me guessing because of the storyline I never knew when the events would happen. My favourite part of the book was when Francis met Jessica for the first time because they became friends immediately and Francis and Jessica finally had someone to speak to. I think the scene where they were on the roof of the hospital car park because it showed loyalty and friendship when they wouldn’t leave or give up trying stopping the girl from jumping off. I didn’t think the book was funny enough or sad enough to make me laugh or cry. The story did keep me turning the pages because I wanted to know when the next event would happen.

I didn’t think the scene where they were all on holiday was written as well as it could be. I think the author could have gone into more detail about where they were staying, what it looked like and other events that they did whilst they were there.

I’d recommend this book for 11-13’s because then they would be a determined reader at that age and not just read the book and if they don’t like one scene they don’t just stop reading it just because that one scene of the book doesn’t interest them, because all the rest of the book might be brilliant and it might be the best book they have ever read.

Luke gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read 13 Days of Midnight by Leo Hunt.

Lewis from Allerton Grange:

This is a touching book about a young boy (Francis) with his ghost friend(Jessica. He develops some friends which you'd stereotypically not want as friends but looks can be deceiving. This has an interesting plot with serious messages hidden In it. I would like it if there was a more fast-paced story so the reader stays more intrigued and attached to the book. But overall, I think this a nice little story which is ok to read. I would recommend this book to maybe people around 9-11 years old

Lewis gave Jessica's Ghost 3 out of 5 and now plans to read If You Were Me by Sam Hepburn.

Sophie from King James's school:

When I looked at Jessica's Ghost I thought it would be a dull and boring book, but I was so wrong. I thought it was a great book and dealt with a strongly known situation, bullying. One of my favourite parts was when Francis met Jessica.

Sophie gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

Lloyd from King James's School:

As I was reading Jessica's Ghost, the main thing I enjoyed was the way the characters, Francis, Andi and Roland, developed through the course of the book. I just really the way that they helped each other bring out the confidence in themselves. Although I liked the story, this would not be a book I'd pick up by looking at the cover, as I thought it was dull, and it didn't appeal to me. I thought that the beginning was rushed and could have had an extra twenty pages to lengthen the section where Francis met Jessica for the first time. The message this story gave me was: stay true to yourself; it's OK to be different.

Lloyd gave Jessica's Ghost 3 out of 5 and now plans to read The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell.

Billy from abbey range academy:

Francis is different than the other people in his school. He meets a ghost one day whose name is Jessica and they become instant friends. He makes 2 new friends, Andi and Rolland. Meeting Jessica turns there life around.

I particularly liked the bits about the science of ghost.

I think that it should have more about the ghosts and their past.

I would recommend this book to anyone between 11 and 14 and anyone who likes tales of supernatural beings with realistic elements to it.

Billy gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

Amaya from Allerton Grange High School:

This superlative book is about a ghost and a boy. They become friends and go on amazing adventures. I particularly liked the start of the book as it really intrigued me with all the suspension etc. Furthermore, the story gripped me as a reader and it really made me feel as if I was in the book itself. I didn't dislike anything at all in the book. Moreover, I would highly recommend this book to anyone at any age because of all the emotions and the plot etc.

Amaya gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read If You Were Me by Sam Hepburn.

Cameron from Leeds City Acedemy :

This was one of those books where as soon as you open the first page you can't let go of it. I found most of the plot very realistic with people thinking of what to do when they enter the pit from being different. In my opinion being different is a good thing because it shows you are your own person. The book was a lovely page turner. I would recommend it to those who like realistic stories about ghosts. It was in my genre because I love ghost stories with a twist.

Cameron gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell.

Anika from King James's School:

Jessica's Ghost was an engaging tale and the entire story slotted together flawlessly; the plot was very clever. The concept of a ghost befriending a human and making a secure bond when times are tough is heartwarming - it definitely fits together. I like how point of views are alternated between all the characters so it never sticks with particular person. It's suitable for all ages and it's a friendly read. I liked the last chapter although I would've loved to hear one last opinion from Jessica. For me, I couldn't really relate to any of the characters due to not being in that serious situation however I had lots of empathy for them especially Francis and the author made me understand what it felt like. I liked the way it was set out but a few illustrations would be excellent. The mystery that needed solving was delicately touched up throughout the book and brought a dramatic ending that was enlightening. An incredible recommend to everyone!

Anika gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read 13 Days of Midnight by Leo Hunt.

Tiger from Allerton High School:

It was a good book. I liked it because it was a mix between reality and fiction. To make it better I would have liked a epilog about what happened to All of them including Jessica. It was a book that I would have never picked off the shelf so its good that I enjoyed it.

Tiger gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell.

Sophie from The Co-operative Academy of Leeds:

This book was very emotional and interesting, as it delves very deep. It talks about very serious things in an unnatural manner. It is about a young boy who is different to everyone else and doesn't fit in , so when he meets Jessica, a ghost who only he can see his whole life turns around . I would definitely recommend this book to others.

Sophie gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Joe All Alone by Joanna Nadin.

Tioluwa from Abbey Grange Cof :

At first when I got this book to read, I thought that I would definitely not like it. However as I read on I found out it was a funny and interesting book. It's about a boy who becomes friends with a ghost and figures that they have a lot in common and how differences are good.

I liked the way the book was written in third person; I could see the other characters views and thoughts. My favourite character would be Andi because even though she might seem mean and over powering, inside she's really vulnerable and means well.

I recommend this book for anyone who likes realistic books that that have a meaning.

Tioluwa gave Jessica's Ghost 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell.

Eleanor from Boston Spa High School:

I read this book in less than 3 hours, it is definitely one of the best books I have ever read but the funny thing is; I would never normally have picked it up off a shelf because I am more of a 'girly girl' book reader. I think that the plot of the book is amazing.

This book is like a mountain path; always twisting and turning - at one point it looked like Jessica might stay forever. This book opened my eyes to the fact that children, not just in fantasy, actually try and kill themselves. I would recommend this book to anyone, everyone who gets the chance to read it should stop whatever they are doing and grab that chance with both hands.

This was just one of those books that you couldn't put down.

Eleanor gave Jessica's Ghost 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

Erin from King James's School:

I liked Jessica's Ghost because it makes me happy to know it is O.K to be different. I cried when Jessica finished her final task. I also loved the fact it discussed death because I never have asked a genuine person about death because it's not really a thing you discuss. I also liked it because I know exactly how it feels to be not wanted by classmates, however I have strategies to deal with this situation. This book might help someone else to not feel isolated.

Erin gave Jessica's Ghost 3 out of 5 and now plans to read The Crowham Martyrs by Jane McLoughlin.

Jenna from King James's School:

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was filled with suspense and emotion, really drawing the reader (i.e. me) in. It was a fascinating book which explored a fascinating subject. I loved the way Jessica turned out to helping the main characters.

I can say I can relate to them in a way, that way being different. Not massively different, but I am, and have always been, a nerd, a geek, a goody-goody. In primary school I was teased, but not to the extent of these well-rounded characters. I thought it explored what it meant to be different really well, and I found myself pitying the poor characters plenty.

If there was one thing that would leave me a little annoyed, it would be how Jessica appeared to her aunt. Although it was a lovely, teary scene, I thought it sort of contradicted the rest of the book. Jessica appeared to those who needed her help, and her aunt was not one that fell into that special category. Despite this, I thought the book was still gorgeous and loved every second of it.

It really covers a sad, sad subject and I love the way the author showed how the main three overcame that, in the shape of Jessica. It was a well-written, emotional book which I enjoyed immensely.

Heather from King James's School:

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was really well written and easy to read. I liked the well-developed characters and the backstories behind them. The twist in the story, although it was sad, was really good. Also, I loved the ending, I prefer happy endings. I liked the speed of the ending as well, it worked well with the rest of the book and it wasn’t rushed or dragged out and boring. I think the beginning is a bit long though, the story didn’t really start until about page 50 so it was boring at first. That is the only criticism I have. I thoroughly enjoyed this book but it wasn’t quite the best book I have ever read.

Murshal from The Co-operative Academy of Leeds:

The book is really interesting and makes you understand how certain teenagers feel about their lives and how to help them or yourself, before they or you take a really serious step that could affect everyone around you.

Magnus from Roundhay high school:

A great book with some amazing characters in it. I felt like Andrew rushed the ending, he could have added more suspense at the end. if you like this book I highly recommend "haunt dead scared" by Curtis Jobling!

A heart-warming book that you don't want to put down. I loved this book due to the fact that it shows you no matter what your imperfections are there will always someone who will love them.

Meah from Guiseley High School:

i think it was quite good because it sort of has a moral to it as well as the story and the moral is that if you are in "The pit" then you can go to someone for help if you need any

Miss Busby from Corpus Christi Catholic College:

What a wonderful book! So beautifully written by Andrew Norriss.

It's a story of self-acceptance and the power of friendship.

Every high school library should have a copy of this on the shelf!

Lauren from Benton Park School:

This book had so many odds and ends to it and the author was amazing to be able to finish the book with such a good ending! I loved the plot and how all the characters had their own story to tell, and that they all linked to Jessica. I loved the fact that Jessica was a ghost and that only Francis, Rolland and Andi were able to see her. (Spoiler!) It was so mysterious; I couldn't put the book down because I needed to find out how Jessica died! When I found out it all made sense and I loved it! This is one of my favourite books so far, I will defiantly read more from this author! I recommend this book!

Asmi from Roundhay high school:

The book is about a boy named Francis Meredith and a ghost name Jessica Fry

who help each other and change their lives and how they meet other friends

on their journey who have the same problem as Francis and Jessica.

In the book my favourite character is Andi because she was strong and stood

up for herself and was a caring friend.

My favourite part of the book was when they found out that they were in

"the pit" because that's when the story changes drastically, making it

even more interesting.

Overall Jessica's ghost was a great story. It was funny but relatively

emotional at the same time. It was a very good read and I will be read more

of Andrew Norris's books if I get the chance...

Scott from King James's School:

This was a book that provided an incredible insight into the minds of people who truly believe that their lives aren’t worth living.

I have never quite understood this psychology. Sometimes a book can explain something far more effectively than anything verbal.

I thought that the way this was presented and discussed was extremely clever.

The concept of this book was incredible, as this is a very real issue. The supernatural aspect, however, is far from my thing.

Scott gave Jessica's Ghost 2 out of 5 and now plans to read The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell.

lucy from Crawshaw Academy:

This was a good book but one that is a one day read. It has a lot of twists and turns in the book that surprised me a lot. my favorite character was Francis because he had a lot about him that was to discover that I found surprising for the character that we first get introduced to overall I think that this book I a good read and that it would be enjoyed by many people adults or children and I would definitely recommend it to my friends
