An excititng read for all girls between 9 and 14. I also found the book suspensive and often 'different'. The charcter was a strong well-developed one and fitted perfectly with the setting. The only problem was that the photo on the front-cover didn't fit to the girl inside.
Charlotte gave Poppy's Hero 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Hitler's Angel.
Georgia from Templenewsam Halton Primary School
I found the book brilliant, as it was full of description and fabulous words that I have never come across before. The reason that I would rate the book 5/5 is because I couldn't put it dowm due to the intenseness at parts and because it makes you wonder what what will happen next...
Georgia gave Poppy's Hero 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Demon's Watch.
Matthew from St Josephs Wetherby
It is a really good book because at the end of each chapter it left you hanging and enticed you to read the next chapter. It made you feel like you were there beside Poppy and like you could feel how she was feeling. You can really understand this book because it is modern and set in modern times. All in all a really good book.

I love this book! It has amazing suspence also when you think its about to tell you something it something else happens so by the time you get to the end of the book there are loads of questions to be answered. Its an amazing roller coster cause when its realy happy it goes sad again.I gave this book a 4 because it sweared a thew times moreover sometimes i lost intreast but then i realy got into it. Even though the front has nothing to do with the book it realy made me want to read it therefore i would recomend it to anyone. Many people said when they saw the front cover the book is more for girls than boys however i disagree it is for boys and girls.I would love to read the sequal if (if there is one). All in all i love this book :) :):):)

I love this storyline its brilliantly thought out !But the reason I gave poppys hero a four and not a five is the ending ,it dissapointed me slightly .this book is perfect for keen readers
sophie gave Poppy's Hero 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Demon's Watch.
Jade from Beeston primary
This book wasnt my favourite but it was still a good book. I would recomend poppys hero to people who like a bit of drama in books. I think its for children aged 10 and above.
The ending wasnt what I expected. It dissapointed me a bit. I didnt really have a favourite or worst part of the book it never went uphill in the story line. No hard feelings on the author its just not my type of book.
Jade gave Poppy's Hero 2 out of 5 and now plans to read Hitler's Angel.

Poppy's hero is a book about a young girl who's father is sent to jail for a crime he apparently didn't commit. When Poppy find's out she is devastated and wants him back so she devises a plan with help from her friends. My favourite character was Angel because he was quite mysterious and shadowy. I enjoyed the mid section of the book. I disliked the beginning of the story because it went too slow. Poppy's hero wasn't the best book I've ever read but it wasn't so bad.
Alex gave Poppy's Hero 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Gods and Warriors.

I found this book very intresting and very hard core it was like a real life situation that was very emotional . I liked the way that rachel billington used very good laungage and it was very beliveable.

Poppy's Hero is a book about a girl called Poppy who's dad's in prison, but she thinks he's innocent. She plans to try a great escape with her new friend Will and her new met friend Angel. My favourite character was Will because I liked him a lot. I thought that this book was very good but not for me. I enjoyed reading it, but I'm a boy and I think it was mainly aimed at girls. I didn't really like Poopy's constant idea that her dad was innocent, but I guess that if she didn't then the book would be 2 pages long. Over all I think this book was very good but not for me.
Matthew gave Poppy's Hero 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Gods and Warriors.
Caitlin from Hollybush Primary School
I think Poppy's Hero is not the best book in the world but not the worst either.I've rated it a 3 out of 5 because it could of been a more cheerful book but I did like it.I also like how much Poppy was determined to get her dad out of prison too.
Caitlin gave Poppy's Hero 3 out of 5 and now plans to read The Demon's Watch.
Cameron from Hollybush Primary School
Poppy's Hero was a really good book although it had some parts that i didn't like such as the end where Poppy's dad was guilty
Cameron gave Poppy's Hero 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Demon's Watch.
chloe from Hollybush Primary School
Poppys hero was an average book but not my favourite. I would have loved to have rated it higher but unfortunatly i couldnt because: they didnt help him ascape,he didnt manage to get out of prison and ther main thing it had more a less the same thing over and over again.
chloe gave Poppy's Hero 2 out of 5 and now plans to read The Demon's Watch.
Noel from Holly Bush Primary School
Poppy's hero was fab to read it was my 2nd favourite so far I think everyone should read it because it's attention grabbing by the way that you have to wait to find out if Big Frank is innocent or a guilty conciounce
Noel gave Poppy's Hero 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Demon's Watch.
Lyla from Hollybush Primary School
I like Poppy's Hero because it is interesting but it also just has the same thing the whole way through the book.It would be better if they actually helped her dad escape and if they got him out of prison. But overall it is a good book.
Lyla gave Poppy's Hero 2 out of 5 and now plans to read The Demon's Watch.
Callum from Lawns Park Primary
This book is about a girl called Poppy who soon finds out that her dad is in prison.I didn't like this book much but it is just because I prefer action and adventure not emotion and drama.I liked the story line but it did not put a picture in my head however it was quite gripping.
I would recomend it to 10-11 year old girls and boys that like emotion and drama.
Callum gave Poppy's Hero 3 out of 5.
Haleemah from Hollybush Primary School
I don' know what to say about this book as I'm absolutely speechless! I love it beause at the end Poppy finds out her Dad(Big Frank) is guilty and NOT innocent after all that she's been through! Deite this, she sill loves her fabulous hero- BIG FRANK!
I would rate thi book 5/5! It's so magnificent.
Haleemah gave Poppy's Hero 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Demon's Watch.

I have found that poppys hero is a really good book to read . With a story line like no other setting it apart from the other books. I could not rip myself away from that book . I had loved how she still cared for him even thought she allways knew he was gulity . I would ead anoer book by Rrachel Billigton because i really think it attracks readers because no one really has story line like this anymore they are offwriting fantasy books when she is there writing something that could and is a real life situation
Felicity gave Poppy's Hero 5 out of 5.

I really enjoyed this book.As I was reading I found that myeyes were glued to the pages and I just couldnt put the boo down.I had never read a book like this befor I started to read Poppys Hero.Dispit that there were several inaprpirated words, and text errors that the book neednt have however I wish all the best to Rachel Billington with any further book ideas she has as I found this onevery emotional and a times a little sad but I felt as though I was connnected to the characters in a almost magical way an I woul recommend this book to a person in a similar situation as the main character without a doubt Poppys Hero is one of a kind!

I think this book is a bit too girly for me. I know I am a girl, but it is just not my type of book. Not enough description for me, although other children would really enjoy it. The cover made me think the book was better than it really is.

Francesca from St FrancIs Catholic Primary School Morley
I really enjoyed Poppys Hero because it was full of adventure also drama.I enjoyed it when Poppy tried to help her dad escape from prison with her friend Will. But then her dad gets put into a prison which is for really bad men called 'Her Majesty's Prison Castlelock'and her plan backfires. So then she meets a boy who knows alot about the world
of prison , and he helps them to plan Poppys dads escape .But does he make the escape possible or impossibe ...
This book was a real page turner and I had my head in it 24/7,I would recommend this book to a friend as everytime you always wanted to read 1 or 2 more chapters !

I liked the book a lot scince it had drama, yet it had a twist at the end which was heart-breaking as well as unexpected.
It had a complex and engaging plot, which hooked me from the first page. Also, I especially liked the charactar Angel as he is slightly mysterious but has a wild personality.
Adam gave Poppy's Hero 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Demon's Watch.

This book was very emotional but also exiting. Although it wasn't my kind of book it was very interesting as Poppy had to get her farther out of jail as soon as possible. My favourite part was when Poppy made up a plan to get her Farther out of prison. I would recommend this book to people ,including adults, who like emotional but adventurous books.
Lauren gave Poppy's Hero 3 out of 5.
Jaime from Souttroyd Primary and Nursery School
Big Frank is not only Poppy's dad, but also her hero. He is clever, funny, what else could you want for a dad? But when Big Frank gets put in jail, Poppy and her friend Will devise a plan refered to them as 'The Great Escape' to get Frank out. When visiting her father in prison, Poppy meets a strange boy called Angel. Soon Angel becomes part of the plan soon followed by her x-best friend, Jude. Poppy and Jude are no longer enimies so she helps them get her dad out of jail. When the day of the escape comes, her dad gets moved to an island prison and soon gets a part in a play. Poppy and her friends go to watch it and after Poppy tells her dad about the great escape he tells her a secret - a dark secret.
Amazing! That's the word I would choose to describe the book. Absolutely AMAZING !!!!!
Jaime gave Poppy's Hero 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Gods and Warriors.
Isobel from Kippax Greenfield
I really enjoyed this book, although it was quite sad and very emotional. I particularly like the part where her dad was in a play because, even though it is a sad book, that part was happy and everyone was enjoying themselves. My favourite character is Poppy because she was so determined to show that her dad was innocent. I would definitely recommend this book to other children, but only if they like sad stories.

Rachel Billington has an extrodinary power to turn a story of everyday life into an adventure of realisation but i think that some parts lacked enthusiasm and the ending was a bit of a let down.

Freya from St Joseph's Catholic Primary school Wetherby
I couldn't put this book down! It was full of description and suspense however at times it was a little bit boring which made me loose interest .Also the front cover could have been more about the book.I only gave it a three because of the previous reasons and because it sweared once or twice. There is so much imagination and the fact that it is a real life situation makes it even better. It is an emotional roller-coaster, at one point you feel the happy the next sad and then worried. I really liked the ending. Despite the fact that the book is called Poppy's Hero( Which makes it sound like a girls book) it is definitely for both boys and girls. This book is not something that i would normally read but thanks to the Leeds Book Awards I have finally found a book that I enjoy. I would recommend this book to anybody over the age of ten.The characters were all really good with their own personalities and I loved how she joined them all together nearer the end. I will definitely read the sequel - If there is one- I hope that Rachel Billington wins the Leeds Book Awards because she really deserves it for all the effort that she has put into this book to make it good! :) :) :)

Grace from St. Benedict's
WOW! This is the best book in the whole world! Some people have put 2, 3, and 4 as their rating but I do not agree however it's their opinion not mine. The only thing was when I read the blurb it gave too much away, but it didn't stop me! My favourite character was Poppy's mum (Irena) because she seems like one the kindest people you could ever meet. For me Poppy's hero was a page turner and I am rushing through all the other books so that I can read Poppy's Angel. If I had any wish in the world it would be to meet Rachel Billington so that I can get some of her top tips on writing. This book brought either a tear to my eye or a grin from ear to ear. Poppy's hero is by far the best book in the shortlist. I am going to recommend this book to everyone I meet. Your the best writer ever Rachel Billington-along with some more authors!

Sophie from St Francis catholic primary school, Morley
Poppy lives in London, with her mum (Irena) and her dad which she gave the nickname to him as bick Frank. Her dad hasn't been home for ages and her mum said he is working abroad, but she thinks it is a lie. Where could he be? At school her bestfriend brought in a newspaper that she found in the local shop with an article about her dad been arested, she was devasted, locking hersef in the toilets and crying that's how much. Her friend Will has an idea to rescue her dad out of prison since he is innocent that's what she thinks, anyway. The plan failes, along the journey she meets a boy called Angel whose dad is also in prison he thinks of a sucessful plan but last minute Poppy's dad, Frank was driven away to a prison near Blackmore Bay on a island. Just when something good in her life was about to happen. After a fews visits there was an invitation to a musical performance in the prison, Poppy needed to get this question out that she had been wanting to ask her dad since she found out he was in prison. Dad " Are you guilty, what did you do that was so bad to be locked up?" She found out that her dad had been locked up in prison before and was locked up this time for being a drug smuggler as he had lost his job and needed desperate money. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was a rollacoaster of emotions sending me mixed feelings, throughout.Definetly, I would recommend this book it was a thrilling adveture and journey that any child would love!

Almost all the others in my school thought this book was terrible. HOWEVER, I think this book is amazing!!
It was very touching with sad parts, like at the end. It's written in 3rd person, with 276 pages, and I loved the plot. It intregued me from the first paragraph.
My first impressions of this book - too girly, doesn't make sense, wouldn't happen in real life. Now I realise I was definately wrong.
The only disapointment is that the front cover with Poppy on it looks nothing like her description! :(
Ellie gave Poppy's Hero 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Gods and Warriors.
Harry from Lawns Park Primary
This book is about a girl, who has a Dad in prison. I quite liked the story line however I think it was meant more for girls. The book kept me guessing most of the way through however it was a bit long winded. It didn't really paint a picture in my head, so 3/5.

This book has many remarkable features that are all my FAVOURITES! In all the books i have read(and thats alot)this one i could never put down because of all the cliff hagers in there. If i could of read it all day and all night i would. The suspence was tremendous. Even though the task that Popy is aproaching is impossible, she carries on with it because she follows her heart and says to her self that it is the right thing to do. I think that this is a good book for our age group because Popy is a great role model to the children of england. It shows them to never stop beleiving because of any one else or what words come out of their mouths. I know now that i would love to write a story as outstanding as this one is, although I don't know how Rachel Billington did it but i am sure i can. I am satisfied!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Wow! Rachle Billington is amazing. I would love to read another one of her books. She really sets the scene and the book is a GREAT page turner. At the end it is really moving, it even made me cry. Even though it is a hard thing to take in her friends are always with her at hard times. When they all get together and work as a team to try and get Poppy's dad out of Prison, she always thinks that her dad is innocent but at the end he revels his true self. When you finish the book you will really ask yourself " Who is Poppy's HERO?" I love POPPY'S HERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I enjoyed reading this book, the front cover was O.K. but the book was better than the front cover.
My favourite character was Angel and I liked wimpy will. I thought the blurb gave to much away, whilst I was reading I actually thought that the rescue plan was going to work and thats what i believed for up to 3/4 of the book but when I read the blurb it said: the great rescue plan she plans with her friend Will doesn't work. If it hadn't been written on the blurb I would have thought that the rescue plan would work. I think there should be another book.
Rojin gave Poppy's Hero 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Hitler's Angel.

Prison.Prison is the worst place for you or anyone of your close friends and family it means you can onley see your loved ones at visiting times. This is exacley what happened to Poppy's dad,Big Frank,it broke her and her mothers heart. But Poppy kept on fighting the pain and knowing her dad was innocent.Or was he????
I have never read a Rachel Billington book before, but i hope she writes more of them!!!!!!

Poppys Hero is an ok book that I did not get into at the begining but it got slightly better later on in the story.
It was not the type of book that I usually read.
I would also reccomend this book to children ages 9+.
ALEXANDROS gave Poppy's Hero 2 out of 5 and now plans to read The Demon's Watch.
Chloe from Greenhill primary
This is an ace book!!!Its different from other books because its on about prison.I found it amazing that instead of fierce dogs, the prison has King Charles Spaniuals.
I must admit the suspention to get Big Frank out was exciting.I gave it a 4 because I noticed a couple off missed punctuation but Rachel pulled it together with her amazing story.
Chloe gave Poppy's Hero 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Hitler's Angel.

This Book is really good and the Begining made me sad.
But it was really good!

Maria from ST. Josephs Wetherby
Poopy's hero is an amazing book! I couldn't stop reading it and I loved the suspense after each chapter. I especially liked the bits in etalics at the begging of a paragraph because it gave me a clear picture of what was happening. I gave it 4 because there were just a couple of missed punctuation but overall it was a great book and I would reccomend it to anyone even if you don't like reading because this book pulls you in! The book kept me asking myself the same question:why is dad AKA big Frank in prison? Well read this book to find out!I could picture the scene infront of me as if I was on of the characters which I loved and I really liked the ending because usually books don't have a good ending but this one was amazing. It was filled with emotions and I really liked the personalities of the characters. I really enjoyed it!!
Maria gave Poppy's Hero 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Hitler's Angel.
Olivia from Lawns Park Primary
I did not enjoy this book. The subject did not interest me in the least and I found the story long and trailing. The characters were quiet and their personalities didnt get a chance to shine. I wished the characters could develop deeper relationships as the only point in the entire story was the escape. I rate this book 3/5, a generous amount for such a big let-down.
Olivia gave Poppy's Hero 3 out of 5.

I didn't really enjoy this book a lot. At the begging of the book it was not very interesting however when it started to get to the end of the book it got a lot better. My favourite part was when Big frank confessed to Poppy about everything that he had done an Poppy was really shocked about it all.
Megan gave Poppy's Hero 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Gods and Warriors.

I wasn't very keen on this book and it was not my type. This book was for girls and dosn't appeal to boys very much .I would reccomend this book to girls that like adventure .But it was nicely worded.

Ciara from St. Josephs Wetherby
I completly and utterly loved this book! Each heart-felt word painted a different picture. This is the sort of thing you search for in a library and unfortunately rarely ever find. I recommend this to any type of book-worm!!!
Jude and Angel interested me the most - I didn't understand why Jude would be so nasty to her best mate. Angel must have a weird life with his Dad dropping in and out of jail. All the characters was truly realistic.
The plot made perfect sense so I could follow everything and it had enough twists to make a car jump off a road!
The emotional ending left me lost for words wanting more and more!
The suspenseful atmosphere pulled me into book as if I was a person standing at the side watching by the side.
The ending was thrilling!
Overall a fab book!!!
Ciara gave Poppy's Hero 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Gods and Warriors.
Katie from St.Josephs' Wetherby
I think this book was amazing. It had lots of emotion and some sadness in it which was ok because it made feel as though you knew exactly how Poppy was feeling during everything she Angel and Will did as well as Jude. The only reason I gave it a 4 is because on one occasion it sweared in the book and that kind of spoilt it for me. I think this an extremly good book and I would recomend it to everyone even if you don't think it will be your type.

Emily from Southroyd Primary
Although it was slightly confusing at the start, everything was explained later on. Without sounding too cliqued, I thought this book was a real page-turner, as there was a new exciting and sad event on every page. The book was about a schoolgirl(Poppy) who was being tormented by her so-called 'friend'(Jude) about Poppy's dad being in prison. My favourite section in the book was when Will and Poppy were having a picnic in the playground, because they forgot they were next to a prison and they discussed pleasant words. My rating is 4 out of 5, as sometimes it got a bit confusing, but other times it was brilliant! I think Rachel Billington put a lot of effort into 'Poppy's Hero' and I really found it interesting. Thankyou Rachel for making your book so fascinating!!!
Emily gave Poppy's Hero 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Fright Forest.

Lauren from Strawberry Fields Primary
Poppy's Hero is a very good book that I really enjoyed. It is a very mature book about a girl who's dad is in prison. Whilst visiting her dad, Poppy meets a vey streetwise boy called Angel. Poppy says that her dad is innocent and plans an escape with some of her friends. When her dad is moved to a different prison that is too far away, Poppy cant do anything about it. Her dad doesn't make contact for ages, Poppy suddenly recives an invitation to a prison production put on by some of the prisoners. At the production Poppy starts asking questions, and finds out if her dad really innocent, and if he did what he is suspected to have done.

Millie from Southroyd Primay School
Poppy's Hero is a fantastic book and Rachel Billington really grabs the readers attention. I couldn't put this amazing book down once I got into it although it takes a while to get the gist of the book, but other than that it makes it an extremely fascinating story. The ending I would say is a bit poor but sweet although if I had to change anything that would be it. I would recommend Poppy's hero as it is a realistic book and lots of children would love to read it.
Millie gave Poppy's Hero 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Granny Grabbers' Whizz Bang World.
Mea from Lawns Park Primary
Poppy's hero was intresting to read because it was very detailed in each word which painted an exciting image in my mind in other cases it made me want to read on.My most inspiring character is Poppy, the reason for this is she expresses her feelings the most and is very open minded. The story did grip me because it was really sad on particular pages, which made me want to read on forever and ever.My favourite part of the book is when Poppy finally found out her dad was a drug smuggler.
On the other hand there were some negatives in this book.Number 1 is I didn't like how it was all on one subject, because sometimes it bores the reader.Number 2 I didn't find out if Jude was a girl or a boy until they had a fall out.But all in all this is a brilliant book and you should publish more.
Mea gave Poppy's Hero 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Granny Grabbers' Whizz Bang World.
Kaya from Lawns Park Primary
Poppy's hero was a good book.It was about poppy's feelings when her dad gets put in to prison.I particularly liked it when Poppy and her mum go to Poland for a holiday because it is nice to have a mix of cultures. My favourite character is poppy because she shows us the ups and downs of life.I think Irena is true to me because she wants poppy to be happy even when is hard.

I enjoyed this book so much because I liked Poppy and felt sorry for her and her mum in their situation. This would not something I would usually read. I normally go with funny looking books and autobiography's. People who like sad adventure story's would love this book. I like Angle because he is so care free and happy. I felt so sad when him and Poppy fall out and it looks like they will never be friends again. There are lots of bumpy roads for Poppy during this book and so many surprises. The ending is good because she finally realizes the reality in why her dad is there.

Tanisha from Alwoodley Primay School
Rachel Billington's fantastic world drags my head, heart and sole into Poppy's story.
The story starts with the shock of Poppy finding out from her friends in school that her father has been jailed. We follow Poppy as she gradually adjusts to what has happened, working her way through shame, anger and other feelings.
For Poppy, this whole process is painful. But ultimately, as in all good stories, she finds her way to realising what really matters that her dad still loves her, and even though he may be guilty, she still loves him, and hes still her hero.
Tanisha gave Poppy's Hero 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Hitler's Angel.

When Poppy finds out her dad is in prison, she and her friend, Will, plot to free him. This was a great book to read if your a soft kind of person. my fave charecter was Poppy because she was courageous and she didn't care what others thaught about her dad, she knew he was innocent. This book is for more older readers since the word difficulty is quite high for younger than 9 years old.

Rachel Billingtons book - Poppy's Hero - is a truly page turning story ! From the first line it grips your entire body and pulls it into the story. You are suddenly emerged in a world of tears, sorrow and happiness. The title had me hooked : Poppy's Hero! Poppy is a truly inspirtational character in this book. She is very detirmined and she knows when its time to face the true reality. It kept me guessing. It was as if I was beside Poppy at home and school, at prison and Castle rock. I would definately reccomend this book to bookworms - but even if you dont like reading this book will definately get you into it. I couldnt wait for the time to come when i could pick up the book and read about the life of Poppy and her friends and family. Rachel Billington's fantastic world drags my head, heart and sole into Poppy's story. When I first picked this book up, I wondered one thing, from the title: Who is Poppy's Hero? If you ever read this book, ask yourself the same question, and at the end, think: have I figured out the answer...?
Girls: a great story written on paper for you, that you would devour, and savour every page!

Poppy's Hero is AMAZINGLY AWESOME!
I will miss reading it!
Poppy finds out her dad is in prison and is determind to get him out but with the help of Will. AKA: Wimpy Will!
But I can't tell you the whole story but i can tell you its just right for leeds book awards!
poppy sounds like a very bright girl and very nice. She loves life until she finds out about her dad. After she tries to make everything better but it doesn't really work. soon she goes to see her dad with her mum and then saw her dad was in the newspaper about his arrest but at first she desn't know what he's done.
it has a great amount of papes in and Rachel Billington is a new and briliant auther to me!

Poppy's hero is an absolutely AMAZING book!
i love how Rachel Billington put sooo much discription into it that means i really visulised the setting and what was going on!
i also really like how at the begging of a few chapters there was a page that said where the characters were and what they were doing. This is such a great story because it runs through all different emotions all the highs and lows
I had to give five stars it's just a really good book once you get into it you can't put it down!!!!
